For Indian applicants, 700+ is a decent score, Anything over 730 would make it strong and competitive.

Within the first 1 year of working, there's generally not much to evaluate from an admission officers viewpoint. Apart from the technical work you are doing, it would help to have some managerial and leadership experience too.

Anything impactful that you do outside work (like your NGO exposure) is a good feather in the cap, but it can't win the battle on its own. The main focus would be on formal work experience and whether you've accomplished more than your peers by the time you apply.

That's an excellent start, Vipin. Ensure that the momentum doesn't die down over the next couple of years. Consistency over the entire duration is important.

Reference ID: DVK-MR2016
Nationality: Russian
PhD, ACCA, CFA level 2 candidate
9 years experience, current Head of Strategic and Finance analysis (Russia)

GMAT 720 [Actual] Oct 2015, IELTS 7.0 [Actual] Test date, Dec 2014

I am 29 years old and two years tried to be admitted on top US b-schools programs: MIT, Berkley, Chicago, Tuck, Duke - but got only interview invite in Tuck without further admission.
My questions are:
- Is it fine to make third attempt in the B-schools or It will be more favorable to change my schools choice
- Is it possible to get an feedback from the B-schools and how the process looks like
A majority of the bschools would say that they encourage reapplicants, and the re-applicant stories you'll find on the web (including our website where you'll see someone who got into a highly selective bschool in the third attempt with a scholarship) may give the impression that it's quite common.

But in practicality, it's not. Reapplicant success stories are an exception, as you might have experienced with your two attempts.

Unless you have a significantly more impactful profile now than the previous attempts, the chances of having a different result will be bleak.

In your case, the career and qualification paths are unusual. You've already got a PhD, considered to be the zenith of all qualifications. Which means your 'Why MBA' and 'Why now' essays have to be super-strong compared to the other typical applicants applying to the same programs.

There are some schools that may give you feedback, but from our experience, such inputs are generally at a high level and don't really give the applicant a real reason since these nitty-gritties are generally not captured at the evaluation stage.

For those reasons, a better idea would be to apply to a new set of bschools that could get you to your long-term goals.

I'm curious to know. What goals did you mention in your essays? What changed in your re-application?

In both years I wrote stories about mu projects at work: Risk management system innovative for Russia or creating Managing system from scratch.
In all stories core was in struggling with problems related to people managing and difficulties in organizing work in difficult environment.
Now I understand that this could be my fault, because in general all BS applicants have interesting work achievements and my task in reality was to show that my experience is different.

Thanks for clarifying.

From the profile you've created, I was trying to understand whether there's a clear and logical progression in the career. The accomplishments are quite good, but I had some issues trying to figure out whether you are a mainstream finance guy (as your first job indicates) or a technology professional with a functional focus on finance (as your last job indicates) or somewhere in between.

You have already developed a risk management system from scratch in your second job. So it isn't apparent why you would need an MBA at this stage.

I hope you were able to clear position yourself via your essays, so Admission officers can extrapolate the graph and appreciate where you are going post-MBA.

You haven't mentioned anything about why you are keen on an MBA in the U.S. I'd assume you want to move out of Russia and start a career in America. That could be the other concern (since you haven't worked abroad earlier) that may not have been addressed in the applications.

These are all general guesses since I don't have any insight into what was actually submitted. If you did not work with a consultant in the earlier attempts, it may be a good idea to engage one this time, to ensure that the obvious (and not-so-obvious) blind spots are covered.

If you'd like us to look at your application send us an email, and we'd be happy to let you know whether there's scope for improvement.

B.Tech in CS, GMAT 690 (Q47 V36) Test date: March 2016

Which schools in India and US should i target with a score of 690 in GMAT and a work ex of 5years and 6months out of whcih 2 years have been in UK.
What part of my profile should i improve in order to make it to the best B schools.
What kind of essay would best suite my profile.
Will i be able to apply into a bschool in 2017 september?
what are my chances of making it to the IIM or ISB, and what do i need to do in order to improve my chances of success?
I'll start off with the customary confession that we can't talk about chances based on the minimal data that we get on the forum. But let me make it worthwhile for you for by sharing some points (and questions) that may help you put in a stronger application.

You sure can apply to bschools in Sept 2017. Any specific reason why you felt you couldn't?

A significant proportion of your work experience has been abroad. Why aren't your applying to international MBA programs? Why are you only limiting yourself to ISB and IIMs (where the GMAT score will be less competitive considering the tech background)?

Your informal (FB) profile is lively and has a stronger impact than your professional profile on LinkedIn (which has transparency and duplication issues). It'll help if you can start projecting an equally energetic professional image as well - via your essays.

As an example, the 'What makes me unique' essay that you've shared could be made more impactful if the subjective elements were played down a little and the objective, quantifiable aspects of what you've done would've been highlighted. Without that it is appearing quite generic and not helping in the differentiation department.

Since you haven't spelt out the post MBA goals specifically, I'll assume you want to stay in the tech industry. If so, here are some good tech focussed programs you can look at : Best MBA Programs in Technology Management & Information Systems

1. BSc in Hotel management 2. PGDM
3 years after UG with Cafe coffee Day, 4 years with Idea cellular after PG
GMAT 710 (estimated)

1. Is it necessary to have a 4 years UG for admissions in B schools in US, as my UG is 3 years?
2. I have a PGDM already, will it affect my application adversely?
3. I am 32 already, is it true that top B schools in US give less chances to above 28 yrs applicants?
Since you already have a post graduate degree from India, you've crossed the 15 yr threshold. this shouldn't apply.

But there are business schools that accept 15 years undergrad degrees from India.

However, there's a dfiferent hurdle for you to cross. Your choice of programs will reduce since not all bschools accept second MBA candidates.

This is true for 2 year degrees in the US. You could try applying to one year programs where the average age in the class is higher.

What's your post-MBA goal? And when is the GMAT test planned? Any preference for geography?

GMAT 650 (Q49 V31) Test Date: April 2016

5+ years of experience in Sales and Marketing function in auto industry with exposure to international markets, domestic market as well as rural business.

1. I am targeting 1 year executive MBA in India. How does my profile rank for the likes on IIMs, SP Jain and XLRI?
2. I haven't given much thought to overseas MBA. What direction should i take in that regard? Should i think about that?
While competing with engineers with higher GMAT scores, you'd be going in with a disadvantage. If you can't take it higher, for some of the IIMs (non A/B/C) the score may work.

You surely can think of an overseas MBA. There are more options for folks with work experience and the overall exposure / experience of studying abroad is very different from India.

Start off by looking at the 1 year MBA programs in Europe which gets more mature applicants than countries like USA which offer 2 year programs for younger candidates.
