The interesting thing about GMAT MBA programs is that Adcoms don't give too much importance to only grades or GMAT scores.

Work experience is one of the most important among the various aspects they do consider. For someone with excellent mangerial and leadership skills, plus clear career goals, in some cases they are willing to overlook some other flaws in the profile.

In your case (i.e. no work experinece), it wouldn't make sense to even consider GMAT MBA courses.

Clear all that's on your plate now, and then work for a few years if you are really serious about good MBA programs.

Hi MB/Sameer

I need your expert advice.

Profile : GMAT (680) TOEFL(105) Work ex : 4 years in software testing.

I have applied to Katz business school this year and got an admit with ~35K $ scholarship.

It is 48th in ranking at US news.

Questions ?
1.Is it worth spending 30 lacs and go USA because i am going fully loan ?
2.Is it a big risk i am taking for this program ?
3.How good is the school from your perpective ?
4. whats better , going this year with above offer or target for 700+ and apply next year

I would really appreciate your help and comment.

Hi Sameer , :)
I want to do MBA because I want to become an investment banker or either start a fintech ( online financial advisor using algorithms) .Gave CAT 2 times but not got satisfactory score stuck in early eighties or nineties.Need your help in guiding me with few questions
1. Already have 2.7 years of IT experience in LnT infotech hence Is it wiser to again go for CAT. ,although my mind is more biased to go for GMAT now ?

2. Since to do a GMAT I need not only a good score but a good profile as well so to do that I am planning to join and manage my father's business ,a Transport Company. Its a decent company having a proper website and having 70+ employees working across 5-6 states and the head office is in Delhi. Also my father is gonna start new business of quarry ( Marbel stone mining) . Will it be helpful to crack ISB ? If yes, how much score with this profile can fetch me good school.

3. If above profile doesn't help then I am Planning to change my career from IT to Bank PO, so that I have a banking background which might be helpful to create an acceptable profile .how much helpful this will be from a scale of 1 to 10.?

4. Or use combo of 2nd and 3rd.

My current profile in brief
X: 87 %
XII: 74 %
Graduation : 6.8
Hobbies : Swimming/ Skating/ Dancing/ Scuba Diving

1. have won many gold medals at school/College level in Athletics and swimming . Also represented myself at district level.
2. Have won in various Plays at School/College level.
3. Participated in Dance competition in my office.
4. Also honored with employee of the month award twice. :geek:

I have done 1 year internship in IISc bangalore and have completed 3 NCFM certification of Finance & Equity certified by National stock exchange of India

Please guide me as I am very much worried about it. I would be very grateful if you could help me on this since I am having these thoughts all the time buzzing in my mind. Please help me before I reach chagrin state

I think your approach is incorrect. You are looking at options with the specific purpose of getting into a business school.

What after all that, the Adcoms don't see a fit with their program? All your effort will be wasted.

Make career plans based on what you really want to do, rather than what you think Adcoms will like to see.

If you aren't interested in your family business, then don't join. (your dad may hate me for this advice). Ditto for the Bank PO role which will do nothing for your Investment Banking aspirations.

If you can't get a role in the investment banking industry, stick to what you have for a couple of years more and become better in the tech industry. Adcoms will appreciate a consistent and upward growth trend better than random career switching.

Re-taking the GMAT can be another to-do item on the list.

Ignore the 're-taking' part, Priyanshu. I meant score as high as you can on the GMAT. Skip the GMAT

i Sameer,

I have received offer letter from HKU MBA, however I still have my reservations about the prgoramme.

I've been working with Maruti Suzuki for last 5 years in production division and my work domain is general management. I would like to mba in consulting of operations management.

I have a few querries regardinge hku mba:-

1) Is it a well known college outside HK
2) will not knowing mandarin be a hinderance in finding job post mba
3) How is tha placement record and what is the average wage
4) how easy/difficult is it to find job post mba
5) How easy/difficult is it for students with background like mine to find a job post mba

Finally is it worth spending all this much money on this programme

Not much. HKUST enjoys a better brand (and ranking) than HKU.
Rahulgupta98765 wrote:2) will not knowing mandarin be a hinderance in finding job post mba
For front-office roles that involve interacting with local companies (employees at all levels, not just the top brass), it could be a challenge.
Rahulgupta98765 wrote:3) How is tha placement record and what is the average wage
The program website should have these details.
Rahulgupta98765 wrote:4) how easy/difficult is it to find job post mba
It is relatively easier to get a job in the same (pre-MBA) space, rather than changing too many dimensions. Since you are aiming for consulting, it could be tougher than aiming for something similar to what you are doing now albeit in a senior role.
Rahulgupta98765 wrote:5) How easy/difficult is it for students with background like mine to find a job post mba
Getting a job in a new country is always difficult, whether it's HK, USA or Europe. Anyone who says it's easy is either lying or already has a confirmed offer in hand (from a sponsoring organization or family business).
Rahulgupta98765 wrote:Finally is it worth spending all this much money on this programme
This question is best answered before starting the application phase while choosing the right business schools.

With all the personal details involved in the decision making process, it's not appropriate for you to take a decision based on any other person's view.

All I can say is that if you are having serious doubts about joining the program after coming so far in the application process, you may want to think twice before you invest a major chunk of your savings into it.

Hi..

I am a B.Tech grad, currently working in an IT firm. I have an experience of around 1 year. I am aiming to pursue MBA but have one question in my mind -
What is the ideal time to pursue MBA. Can I go for MBA now (with 1 year of experience) OR should I have say 3-4 years of experience in the industry?

Kindly guide what is the best time to go for MBA.

Thanks in advance!

Option 2 works better for international MBA programs, Tushar.
